Today we heard of the sad passing of the phenomenal cutting horse sire Dual Rey.
1994 Sorrel Stallion (3258332)
SIRE OF EARNERS OF OVER $37,800,000
Dual Rey, a consistent sire both in the show arena and sale ring can withstand close scrutiny.
His offspring have total earnings in excess of $26 Million and he is ranked as the #2 Leading Cutting Sire.
At the 2013 NCHA Futurity, he was the #1 Leading Maternal Grandsire of 2YOs selling with 9 head grossing $569,000 for an average of $63,222. Dual Rey was the sire of the producer (Seca Rey Lena) of the #1 High Selling 2YO, sire of the #2 High Selling 2YO and sire of the producer (Thimblerey) of the #3 High Selling 2YO.
At the 2012 NCHA Futurity, Dual Rey was the #1 Sire for Highest Sale Average of $44,600 (selling 5 or more) in the 2012 NCHA Futurity Seasoned Cutting Horse Sale and #1 Sire of Broodmares Sold (selling 3 or more) with an Average of $39,400 in the 2012 NCHA Futurity Sales.
Dual Rey was the #1 Sire of offspring sold at the NCHA Summer Spectacular Sale for 2 consecutive years (2011 and 2012) and sire of the High Selling Gelding at the 2012 NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity 2YO Sale.
In addition, his versatility is clearly demonstrated as the sire of champions in multiple disciplines. He is the only horse to ever sire the NCHA Futurity Open Champion, the National Reined Cowhorse Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Champion and the National Stock Horse Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Champion — and all in the same year!
Our thoughts are with owner Linda Holmes, Holmes Cutting Horses, Jeff Oswood, Oswood Stallion Station and all involved in the care of the super sire throughout his life.
The end of an era, his legacy will surely continue through his many successful progeny.
